CMU Kicks Off Christmas Season with Lighting Ceremony

Central Mindanao University (CMU) ushered in the holiday season with a Christmas lighting ceremony themed “Paskong Pinoy,” uniting students, faculty, and staff in front of the Administration Building on December 2, 2024.

The lighting display highlighted Filipino Christmas traditions, featuring giant parols (lanterns) from each college council. These iconic symbols of Filipino Christmas celebrations were crafted from bamboo and dry leaves, representing the country’s cultural heritage and season’s festive spirit.

Additionally, a tunnel of lights near the main gate was adorned with star-shaped designs, allowing people to walk through a glowing passage.

The Centennial Landmark and Administration Building, including post lamps at the quadrangle, were decorated with shimmering lights. The Giant Christmas Tree was beautifully adorned with Talas (stars) donated by various student organizations.

In his message, Dr. Rolito G. Eballe, University President, inspired the CMU community with a reminder of their resilience despite past challenges. “As these lights shine, may they inspire a sense of togetherness and positivity within our community. Let their brilliance remind us that even in moments of delay, there is beauty in waiting—beauty that reflects the enduring spirit of hope and joy that Christmas brings,” Dr. Eballe said.

This year’s Christmas lighting celebration was organized by the Christmas Lighting Committee headed by Dr. Procopio B. Galendez Jr. in collaboration with the Supreme Student Council (SSC), led by Hon. Ken Bien Mar Caballes, and the Association of Registered Student Organizations (ARSO), headed by Mr. Kristel Kane P. Calonia.

The celebration concluded with a festive community singing, a dance presentation from CMU Bidlisiw, and a fireworks display. [Mary Jane D. Bravo]
