CMU solidifies internationalization through Internationalization Day 2026
Strengthening its commitment to internationalization, Central Mindanao University (CMU) gathered 190 faculty members, staff, students, and international partners for Internationalization Day 2026 on September 15 at the College of Engineering Atrium as part of the University’s 116th Founding Anniversary celebration.
Carrying the theme “Crossing Borders, Connecting Minds: Advancing Student Mobility and Transnational Education for Global Competence,” the activity was spearheaded by the Office of International Relations (OIR) under the banner “Solidifying Internationalization.” The event highlighted the University’s continuing efforts to expand international engagements, strengthen student mobility, and develop transnational education opportunities.
OIR Director Dr. Raquelyn J. Dadang presented CMU’s international engagements and global footprint, highlighting the university’s partnerships and collaborations across different regions. Her presentation provided an overview of CMU’s growing connections with institutions beyond the Philippines.
Dr. Tapas Pal, a professor from Raiganj University in India, discussed student mobility opportunities through culture, technology, and resilience. He emphasized how these dimensions can help students adapt to different environments and make the most of international academic experiences.
Meanwhile, Dr. Guillian M. Mecate, Head of Program Development and Strategy of the University of the Philippines System, shared insights on advancing student mobility and transnational education. Her discussion underscored the importance of equity, academic purpose, and sustainable pathways in developing international opportunities for students.
Adding to the international character of the event were virtual messages from CMU’s partners in Asia, Europe, and North America. Cultural performances by the CMU Bidlisiw Socio-Cultural Troupe and CMU Music Society complemented the program, while open forums provided participants with opportunities for exchange and academic discussion.
In his welcome address, CMU President Dr. Rolito G. Eballe shared his hopes and vision for the university’s internationalization journey. He expressed hope that CMU students would thrive in a borderless world, equipped with resilience, adaptability, and cultural appreciation.
He also envisioned CMU standing alongside leading institutions worldwide and producing graduates whose competencies are recognized both locally and internationally, while maintaining the university’s local relevance as it strengthens its international engagements.
Throughout the program, strengthening CMU’s capacity for internationalization, expanding student mobility, and exploring transnational education models remained central. Participants were likewise encouraged to develop concrete action plans for advancing internationalization within their respective colleges and offices.
The initiative contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by supporting opportunities for inclusive, relevant, and internationally oriented education through academic collaboration, student mobility, and transnational learning pathways.
