CMU receives 2 international recognitions: ISO 9001:2015 certification, QS 3-Star institution rating

CMU raised its bar of international achievements after receiving the official ISO certification 9001:2015 Quality Management System and QS 3-Star Institution Rating awarded by the certification body of TuV SuD, Asia Pacific TuV SuD group, and Quacquarelli Symonds, respectively, during the Awarding Ceremony yesterday, June 7, 2021, through its official Facebook page.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the most popular quality management standard used by organizations to ensure the consistent quality of their products and services. At the same time, the Quacquarelli Symonds helps people and organizations in the world to fulfill their potential through educational achievement, international mobility, and career development.

“Achieving a quality management system certification demonstrates an organization’s ability to meet and exceed the community’s expectations,” Mr. Rustan Torre, Business Development Manager, TuV SuD Philippines, Inc., said as he awarded the ISO certification to CMU.

The ISO certification 9001:2015 encapsulated the university’s quality management systems to provide and develop graduate, undergraduate degree, and non-degree programs, research and extension, and university services.

“The certificate is valid from the 3rd day of May 2021 to the 2nd day of May 2024 with a registration number TUV 100054475,” Mr. Torre added.

Meanwhile, Mr. E Way Chong, the Regional Director of Quacquarelli Symonds, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, awarded CMU with an overall QS 3-star institution rating. The QS stars is a unique grading system that extensively evaluates universities based on global standards. It emphasizes the institutional strengths and helps in recognizing the institution’s fields of expertise.

“CMU receives 5 stars in teaching, 3 stars in employability, 2 stars in academic development, 2 stars in internationalization, 4 stars in facilities, 3 stars in social responsibility, 5 stars in inclusiveness, and 2 stars in program strength of BS Biology program,” Mr. Chong highlighted.

He further said that this rating was published in the https://www.topuniversities.com/  alongside with other universities rated globally.

“The ISO 9001:2015 and QS 3-star rating is a manifestation of the CMUs commitment to excellence amidst the diversity of ideas among its workforce… [these recognitions] were achieved through unity,” said Dr. Jose Alexander C. Abella, university’s Vice President for Academic Affairs.

He further encouraged the CMU workforce to sustain these achievements as it gears up to be among the top academic institutions in ASEAN and the world.

Also, Dr. Jesus Antonio G. Derije, CMU President, emphasized that these recognitions entail more responsibility and accountability. “This ultimately requires a higher level of commitment,” he said.

“As a president of this institution, I will do my best to lead this university and ensure that quality, standards, and ongoing improvements will become our way of life, emphasizing audit and other evaluation procedures as essential strategies,” he added.

The Commission on Higher Education through Atty. Lily Freida M. Milla, CESO IV and OIC of the Executive Director’s Office has also commended the university’s academic laurels.

“Indeed, CMU is one of the best public universities in the Philippines. You are also one of the firsts to be ranked in the QS star university rating under the Fostering World-class Universities project of CHED,” she said.

Atty. Milla further hoped that this endeavor would help CMU develop its credibility and elevate its global academic reputation.

To acknowledge the efforts of the people behind these recognitions, the university awarded certificates of recognition to Engr. Charlie S. Labrador, the university’s ISO 9001:2015 consultant from the QuickSystem Network Incorporated, and to all the CMU process owners and document controllers. (RGPadoginog)
