Central Mindanao University Academic Paradise of the South
Central Mindanao University officially opened the First Semester of Academic Year 2026–2027 on Monday, August 3, with a flag-raising ceremony at the University Convention Center, where University President Dr. Rolito G. Eballe shared key updates on the University’s recent international engagement and preparations for the new academic year, among others.
The ceremony was sponsored by the Department of Food Science and the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, which Dr. Eballe thanked for their contributions to the University’s mission of excellence in education, research, and extension.
Among the highlights of the President’s report was his participation in the 2026 CHED High-Level Education and Internationalization Mission to Taiwan, held from July 26 to 31, 2026. The mission brought together Philippine university leaders to strengthen academic partnerships with Taiwanese institutions, with diplomatic coordination and support from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) and the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).
During the trip, delegates engaged with Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, leading universities, and industry partners to advance research collaboration, academic mobility, dual-degree programs, scholarships, and industry linkages in priority fields such as semiconductors, smart agriculture, biotechnology, and advanced manufacturing. The mission also advanced the International Industrial Talents Education Special Program (INTENSE Program), which expands opportunities for industry-linked education and high-tech career pathways.
Dr. Eballe noted that CMU’s participation in the mission reaffirmed the University’s continuing commitment to internationalization and global academic collaboration.
Meanwhile, the flag-raising ceremony coincided with the official start of classes for the First Semester of Academic Year 2026–2027, marking the return of students to CMU, dubbed the Academic Paradise of the South. In his report, Dr. Eballe welcomed the university community back and outlined the schedule of activities for the opening week, August 3–9, 2026.
Students were also reminded that enrollment has been extended until August 5, 2026, with the late registration penalty set to commence on August 6, 2026. Dr. Eballe urged all students to take note of these dates and complete their enrollment and registration within the prescribed period.
Several university units also organized activities to welcome students. The Office of Library Services held a Class Kick-Off on campus, offering students free books, bread, and juice, while the College of Veterinary Medicine held its First-Year and Parents’ Forum for incoming students and their families ahead of the term. The Office of the Vice President for Administration likewise finalized security preparations under Oplan Balik Eskwela to ensure an orderly and safe opening of classes.
Dr. Eballe concluded his report by thanking the university community for its continued commitment and encouraging everyone to work together in advancing CMU’s mission throughout the new academic year. Following the flag-raising ceremony, faculty and staff were served free arroz caldo and puto as a welcome-back gesture marking the start of the new semester.
