CMU – CHE bags 2nd RU at Kumbira 2024 

Competing against top schools in the region, Central Mindanao University College of Human Ecology was hailed overall second runner up at the Kumbira 2024 held at the Limketkai Activity Center, Cagayan de Oro City, on October 16-18, 2024.

Key achievements included the gold medals won by Joven H. Eguin and Rey Mark B. Quinlat in the Traditional/Modern Cooking Technique – Chicken Pastil, Floed Ryan Cordova in Regional Fruit Jam/Preserve – Langka, and Breanna Sophia A. Gawailan and Elkia Marie A. Gabia in Flairtending Tandem competitions.

In addition, silver medals were won by Dolly Kate B. Mondia and Rjay S. Lampa in the Buffet Table Centerpiece competition, Angel Rose L. Salinasal in Regional Fruit Jam competition, and Adam Shein Q. Algarme in the Best Regional Ingredient – Suwa competition.

Moreover, Kim Ryan O. Simaurio in the Baby Cakes – Freestyle category, Althea M. Calunsag and Alexa O. Cabaluna for the Table Setting with Floral Centerpiece, and Anna Vi Marie B. Lagua in the Mocktail Mixing competition won bronze medals.

Also representing the university in the different competitions were the following: Armar Julle T. Ramal and Christianlie Uy in Flairtending Tandem; Francis Allen Colinares in Latte Art; Johary Q. Maniri and; Vincent William Lagura and Van Joemar Pepito in Chef Master. These students were awarded with diplomas for their participation in the competitions.

The student participants were coached by the following faculty members: Ms. Gista Fel B. Barong for the Regional Ingredient – Suwa, Regional Fruit Preserve, and Best Traditional/Modern Cooking Technique – Chicken Pastil categories; Ms. Rubie A. Arroyo and Ms. Abby Glenn Estrebillo for Regional Fruit Preserve – Langka; Ms. Mary Eula Angel N. Non for Flairtending Tandem and Mocktail Mixing; Ms. Florivelle C. Escarlan for Buffet Table Centerpiece and Table Setting; Ms. Airish O. Bolongan for Latte Art and Bed Making competition; Mr. Redgie M. Castro for the Baby Cakes – Freestyle and; Ms. Joycelyn Grace Escarlos and Ms. Dawn Fatima Cuevas for the Kumbira Chef Masters competition.

Kumbira is an annual culinary festival organized by the Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA). This was attended by 16 sixteen institutions from the different parts of Mindanao.
