To promote inclusivity and raise awareness on issues related to the LGBTQIA+ community, the College of Arts and Sciences Student Council (CASSCO) Ad Hoc Committee on Gender and Development conducted a symposium entitled Panaghiusa: Unifying Colors for Progress and Justice on September 20, 2024, at the CAS Auditorium.
The symposium was attended by student leaders from the different class organizations under the College of Arts and Sciences.
In his opening message, CASSCO Chairperson Jayvee Oliveros emphasized that the symposium was designed for student leaders to be equipped to discuss the issues with their constituents.
The event featured two segments: a discussion on the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Expression, and Sexual Characteristics (SOGIESC) Equality Bill and a deeper dive into the LGBTQIA+ policies, where the speaker addressed the various challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. Mr. Salm Kairo Dumanlag, the Executive Director of Mindanao Pride and Director of the Office of Extension and Service Learning at Liceo de Cagayan University, served as the guest speaker.
Moreover, participants engaged in group discussions to explore issues within the university and proposed actions to address them.
