CMU launches COVE-Min to advance One Health, Veterinary Research in Mindanao
Central Mindanao University (CMU), through the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development and Extension and the College of Veterinary Medicine, officially launched the Center for One Health and Veterinary Engagement in Mindanao (COVE-Min), at the CVM Hall on September 8, 2026.
The launch marks an important milestone in the University’s continuing efforts to advance the One Health approach by bringing together research, extension, instruction, diagnostics, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement to address interconnected animal, human, and environmental health concerns in Mindanao.
Leading the newly established Center is its Founding Director, Dr. Karla Cristine C. Doysabas, together with the COVE-Min Unit Heads, Dr. Ampie Magdalene C. Sua-Llido of COVE-BRIDGE (Building Research into Development, Governance, and Education) and Dr. Kassey Alsylle T. Dargantes of COVE-PAWS (Pets and Wildlife Surveillance). The launch provided an opportunity to introduce the Center and its leadership to partners and stakeholders and to share its direction, priority areas, and opportunities for collaboration.
The event was attended by CMU President Dr. Rolito G. Eballe and Vice President for Research, Development and Extension Dr. Allan P. Dargantes, together with representatives from government agencies, local government units, research institutions, private organizations, and industry partners. Also present was Atty. Oliver Owen “Baba” B. Garcia, Provincial Board Member of Bukidnon, who shared a message of support for COVE-Min and its One Health initiatives.
The event also brought together 28 Barangay Animal Health Workers (BAHWs) from the Municipality of Maramag, who contributed valuable community perspectives to the One Health discussions.
Following the launch, participants took part in a collaboration meeting where they exchanged ideas, identified shared priorities, and explored opportunities for joint research, extension, and capacity-building activities. The discussions highlighted the value of bringing together expertise and experiences from different sectors in responding to health concerns that affect communities across Mindanao.
With the establishment of COVE-Min, CMU-CVM hopes to create a stronger platform where researchers, government agencies, communities, and industry partners can work together, share knowledge, and develop evidence-based solutions toward a common goal—better health for animals, people, and the environment in Mindanao.
