CMU launches 10th RDE Week

Marking a decade of innovation and collaboration, Central Mindanao University’s  10th Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Week officially kicked off on April 22, 2025, at the University Convention Center.

Anchored on the theme, “Conquering Horizons Through Global Foresight, Performance Management, and Innovation,” the week-long celebration reaffirms CMU’s mission in advancing the frontiers of knowledge  particularly in generating relevant research and delivering community-responsive extension programs that contribute to sustainable and inclusive development.

In his message of support, University President Dr. Rolito G. Eballe emphasized that RDE is not just a pillar of the University but the pulse that drives institutional relevance and social impact.

“Let us continue working together to ensure that research and extension serve not only as academic pursuits but also as instruments of hope, growth, and nation-building. With your passion, intelligence, and commitment, I am confident that CMU will continue to lead, inspire, and innovate, conquering new horizons for the greater good” he added.

One of the highlights of the opening program was the keynote address of Former Undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture, Mr. Joel P. Rodinas, representing the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office, who emphasized the importance of innovation, collaboration, and digitization in building a more food-secure, climate-smart, and innovation-powered Philippines.

Mr. Rodinas, urged researchers, extensionists, students, farmers, and partner stakeholders  to embrace the evolution of agricultural value chains, especially in the face of agricultural challenges and digital transformation.

“To the students, may this week awaken your curiosity and deepen your commitment to serve. To our farmers and local leaders, may you find knowledge here that transforms your daily work. To our partners and stakeholders, may this gathering spark collaborations that ripple far beyond these walls,” He motivated.

The event was formally launched with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the RDE Product Exhibit, featuring cutting-edge innovations, community-based extension outputs, and collaborative research from CMU’s 10 colleges, research centers, and partner communities, government agencies such as the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) and the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC).

The exhibit showcased community livelihood models, agro-industrial technologies, indigenous knowledge systems, processed food products, educational materials, and environmentally sustainable practices—many of which have been adopted or piloted in local communities.

This year’s RDE Week features an array of activities until April 25, including RDE Night, Pasidungog 2025 (awarding of extension partners), Inambitay sa Kinaadman (formerly Farmer’s Forum) Larong Pina  Lahi (RDE games), Pet Show, RDE Quiz Show, and Pabonggahan.   [Iyren Dalipe Neri]
