Central Mindanao University Academic Paradise of the South
In support of efforts to advance Philippine plasma research, a faculty member from the Department of Physics at Central Mindanao University (CMU) is representing the country in the 1st Thailand Tokamak – 1 (TT-1) Joint Experiment, running from July 19–25, 2026.
Dr. Michelle Marie S. Villamayor was invited by the Government of Thailand to participate in an international research activity spearheaded by the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT). Her inclusion in the mission highlights the expanding research reach of Central Mindanao University and reinforces its commitment to international academic partnerships.
During the event, Dr. Villamayor collaborated alongside a select group of international experts and institutions from Southeast Asia and beyond.
The week-long collaborative experiment focused on analyzing the impact of boronization within the TT-1 fusion device — a technique used to coat inner reactor walls, reduce impurities, and boost plasma performance.
Dr. Villamayor’s work in Thailand brings cutting-edge nuclear fusion knowledge back to CMU, positioning the university as a key Philippine node for regional energy research and opening new avenues for future faculty and student collaborations across ASEAN.
