As a way to address the issue on the CoVid-19 pandemic that we are facing, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics under the College of Human Ecology of Central Mindanao University, together with the Philippine Association of Nutrition Inc. Alpha-Pi Chapter, the official student organization of the Department, spearheaded mass information drive through their Free Online Nutrition Consultation. Faculty members who are Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians and the sophomore students of the ND Department work hand in hand in offering the free online consultation. Accordingly, since their launching, they have been receiving numerous queries through their official Facebook account, SMS, and even phone calls.
Their aim in initiating this kind of service is to address confusion regarding health issues, especially on having the right kind of nutrition in times like these. In an online interview with a faculty of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Wilmar Jun O. Elopre, RND, and the adviser of PAN Alpha-Pi Chapter, said that “we thought that we could help the community by conducting mass information drive and free online consultation on how to boost the immune system through proper nutrition… Having good nutrition is one of the key points to strengthen one’s immune system together with having sufficient physical activity, enough sleep, and maintaining positive disposition in life.”
Elopre elaborated that “we are not helpless” during these times. Through their online platform, and by having proper nutrition while we are on quarantine, we are doing our part in helping our frontliners.
