CMU researcher secures for SSHN Research Mobility Program in France

A faculty researcher from the College of Veterinary Medicine secures a research mobility grant at the Université de Limoges, France, through the prestigious Séjours Scientifiques de Haut Niveau (SSHN) program of the French Embassy from September 28 to October 16, 2026.

Dr. Karla Cristine C. Doysabas, Director of Central Mindanao University’s Center for One Health and Veterinary Engagement in Mindanao (COVE-Min), is currently on a research stay at the Université de Limoges, marking a key milestone in CMU’s international veterinary public health partnerships.

The SSHN is a competitive program of the French Embassy for PhD-holding researchers, offering opportunities to conduct scientific stays in French institutions. It promotes international scientific exchange, research capacity building, and the development of collaborative projects.

Dr. Doysabas is hosted at the Unité Mixte de Recherche U1094 Inserm U270 IRD EpiMaCT (Épidémiologie des maladies chroniques en zone tropicale), which focuses on toxoplasmosis, a globally significant zoonotic disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii. This foodborne parasitic disease has major public health implications, making her research particularly relevant to both global and local contexts.

Reflecting on her experience, Dr. Doysabas shared: “Being accepted into the SSHN Research Mobility Program is both an honor and a meaningful opportunity for me to grow as a researcher. I am truly grateful for the chance to learn in a new research environment and collaborate with experts in the field.”

She added that the training advances her practical research skills and deepens her knowledge of Toxoplasma gondii.

“This experience has strengthened my interest in toxoplasmosis research and inspired me to apply what I have learned to my future research and work in the Philippines,” she remarked.

Her mobility aligns with her expertise in veterinary microbiology, infectious diseases, and One Health. As founding Director of COVE-Min, she sees this opportunity as a gateway to establishing international linkages that will support future collaborative research, capacity-building initiatives, and studies on zoonotic diseases relevant to Mindanao.

The SSHN research mobility underscores CMU’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and advancing its capacity in One Health, zoonotic disease research, and veterinary public health.

This initiative directly contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being). [Office of International Relations]
