CMU hosts Korean delegation to strengthen global partnerships, community outreach

Central Mindanao University (CMU) bolstered its internationalization and community extension efforts after hosting a delegation from Seoul Ezra Church in South Korea, featuring academic engagement, cultural exchange, and medical outreach activities.

Organized by the CMU Department of Languages and Literature (DLL) in coordination with Korean Adjunct Professor Dr. Jongwoo Kim, the visit took place on October 7, 2026, and began with a courtesy call to the University President to discuss institutional linkages and potential areas for collaboration.

As part of the academic engagement, the delegates interacted with Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies (BAELS) students, providing opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and language learning. The session allowed students to engage with native Korean speakers, gain exposure to the Korean language and culture, and broaden their intercultural understanding.

The delegation also conducted a medical outreach on campus, offering skin care services and eye checkups to support the university community’s health and well-being. The initiative complemented CMU’s commitment to community extension and holistic development by bringing health-related services closer to its constituents.

Dr. Danna Karyl Jane C. Talde, DLL Chairperson, said the visit strengthened the department’s international linkages and expose BAELS students to authentic intercultural experiences that enhanced their linguistic competence and cultural awareness.

“I see this visit as an opportunity to strengthen our international linkages in the [department]  and explore collaborations in language learning, cultural exchange, and extension. I’m also happy that this activity exposed our BAELS students to authentic intercultural experiences and enhance their linguistic competence and cultural awareness,” Dr. Tadle shared.

Through this engagement, CMU further explored opportunities to expand its international linkages while integrating academic enrichment with community service. The visit underscored the potential of cross-cultural partnerships to advance the university’s internationalization goals and strengthen its commitment to social responsibility.

The initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically contributing to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) through medical outreach, SDG 4 (Quality Education) through language immersion, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through expanded  international cooperation.
