CMU Faculty join Intโ€™l training on Emerging Fungal Infections in KL, Malaysia

Two esteemed faculty members from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Central Mindanao University (CMU), Dr. Kassey Alsylle T. Dargantes and Dr. Ted Aries Daguro, recently participated in the internationally recognized program Clinical and Laboratory Diagnosis of Emerging Fungal Infections. Organized by the SEAMEO TROPMED Network, the training took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from December 2 to 6, 2024.

The program, supported by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), focused on equipping participants with advanced clinical and laboratory diagnostic skills to address the growing threat of fungal infections. The training featured expert-led lectures on epidemiology, clinical management, and hands-on sessions on molecular diagnostics, practical techniques, and collaborative case analyses.

Dr. Dargantes and Dr. Daguroโ€™s participation was made possible through scholarships provided by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) under its Higher Education Upskilling and Study for Advancement of Staff and Faculty (HUSAY) Program. The HUSAY Program is CHEDโ€™s initiative to support the professional development of higher education faculty by providing opportunities for international training and advanced learning.

Their involvement underscores CMUโ€™s dedication to advancing public health and addressing global health challenges, contributing to the achievement ofSustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being. By applying their newly acquired expertise in fungal infection diagnostics, they aim to strengthen CMUโ€™s research, education, and community extension programs.

The training reaffirms CMUโ€™s role as a key player in public health advocacy and highlights the importance of regional collaboration in combating emerging infectious diseases.
