Central Mindanao University (CMU), through the College of Education, co-hosted the recently concluded 5th International Conference on Education and Technology (ICETECH) 2024, which was organized by Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA) in Indonesia on October 30-31, 2024.
The conference focused on “Multidisciplinary Approaches to SDGs for a Sustainable Future.” It aimed to address how educational and technological advancements can tackle challenges in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on Universal Quality Education, Digital Technologies in Education, Solidarity and Partnership, and The Future of Work Post-COVID-19.
Through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with UNIPMA, CMU has reinforced its international partnerships and collaboration efforts while contributing to key SDGs—SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). This partnership allows CMU and UNIPMA to co-host ICETECH and collaborate in research dissemination. As part of the agreement, UNIPMA—being Scopus-indexed—was responsible for receiving, selecting, and reviewing submitted research papers for publication in conference proceedings or journals, with input from an editorial and reviewer team.
Representing CMU and among the invited speakers, Dr. Denis A. Tan, Dean of the College of Education, delivered a talk on “Using Metacognitive Skills in the Mathematical Problem-solving Heuristics Among Filipino Senior High School Students.” Her presentation examined the role of metacognitive skills in enhancing problem-solving abilities in mathematics among Filipino youth, addressing the need for innovative, skills-based education in line with SDG goals for universal quality education.
Moreover, CMU’s College of Education graduate students contributed two research papers, which they presented at the conference:
- “Students’ Grit and Academic Performance in Mathematics” Quenie Syliongco Romorosa, Marianeña Pansoy Rama, Laurence Rome Capanang Pagurayan, Geae Hanzel Torabia Mondigo, Russel Rodel Encabo Emborgo, and Jenyliza Tan Ucang.

ICETECH 2024 provided an interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners, and educators to present the latest trends, innovations, and practical solutions to challenges within education and technology. With collaborative support from co-hosts like Arizona State University (USA), Universiti Teknologi MARA (Malaysia), and Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (Philippines), CMU continues to strengthen its role in driving impactful, sustainable change in global education through knowledge exchange and innovation.
