The Northern Mindanao Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (NOMCAARRD) will be hosting its first-ever Farmers and Industry Encounters through the Science and Technology Agenda (FIESTA) which shall be celebrated as “Kawayan ug Kanding FIESTA sa NOMCAARRD.
The above celebration shall be conducted this March 21-22, 2018 at the University Convention Center of Central Mindanao University, Musuan, Bukidnon, the base agency of the consortium.
The FIESTA is a strategy to push the commercialization of regional S&T-based products to its target users and markets where NOMCAARRD highlights the Kawayan and Kanding technologies to the participants. Farmers, local government units, investors, manufacturers, processors, researchers, extension workers, students and among others within and outside of the region will be expected to gather as one in this FIESTA celebration.
The centerpiece which are Kawayan and Kanding technologies shall include: Village Level Establishment of a Bamboo Nursery, Prospects of Engineered Bamboo, and Mitigating Soil Erosion through Bamboo Plantation, hence, Goat Production Technology and Smallholder Goat Raising: A Farmer’s Perspective.
Additional technologies like the Mushroom and Adlay, and a strategic way to have a Disease-free White Potato Seed Pieces Production and the emerging Organic farming: Experiences and Successes Stories shall also be promoted within this FIESTA celebration.
In between the 2-day program flow of activities, major highlights shall be (1) Technology Matching, (2) Technology to People, (3) Farmers Forum and (4) Business Coaching. The Technology Matching is a venue for the technologies being promoted in the FIESTA to be matched with the information and technology needs of the participants, the farmers and potential investors. The Technology to People is a chance for the viewers to roam around and talk with the experts or technology generator of the different booths and also see for themselves the various products of the R&D. Farmers Forum is a given time among the participating farmers and investors to interact with the technology speakers and/or promoters to negotiate and discuss relevant issues and concerns vis-à-vis. Lastly, Business Coaching is an activity where experts coming from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will present about business opportunities that are influential in improving the market strategies of the products.
Other highlights of this event include; Media conference, Contests on photography, essay writing, cooking, identification of forage and pasture, and quiz bowl.
Furthermore, as NOMCAARRD hopes its pioneering FIESTA celebration to be successful, it continues to invite people with interest on Research and Development, Technology Transfer, and Knowledge Management to celebrate with the institution this March 21-22, 2018 at Central Mindanao University.
