CMU wraps up RDE Week 2025

After a week-long celebration of innovative research and technologies, Central Mindanao University (CMU) concluded its 10th Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Week on April 25, 2025 at the University Convention Center.

In her welcome remarks, University Extension Director Dr. Raquel O. Salingay shared her reflections and insights on the RDE Week celebration. She highlighted how the event gathered the different stakeholders, including community partners, who were given a chance to engage with researchers and extensionists, and students who are the future bearers of the responsibility in development.

Dr. Salingay added that development is a collective effort.

“We have to play our role. We need to identify our goal and pinpoint kung unsa atong role para ana nga goal. And collaborate and cooperate for the goal,” Dr. Salingay said.

She further hoped that the event sparked a renewed passion for resilience and genuine service to our communities.

Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) Chief Science Research Specialist of the Agricultural Support Division for Research, Development, and Extension Ms. Maria Vina A. Serrano representing SRA Administrator Hon. Pablo Luis S. Azcona graced the event for the keynote message. 

Ms. Serrano lauded CMU for the success of the event which highlighted innovation in pursuit of global competitiveness. She also shared that the agency has been in talks with the university for a future partnership in improving the sugar industry in the province and Mindanao as a whole. 

“These kinds of activities that you do and the emphasis that you put on research, development, and innovation have reinforced our belief that your institution will make wonders for our industry,” Ms. Serrano said. 

Ms. Serrano ended her message with a hopeful vision.

“Together, let’s work on a shared dream of making Mindanao the next frontier in the sugar industry,” Ms. Serrano added.

Director of Research Dr. Jupiter V. Casas closed the event which he described as a validation of the dedication, motivation, and commitment of CMU to help address the problems in social inequity and poverty alleviation for inclusive growth through responsive, client-driven, and readily accessible RDE outputs and technologies.

Winners of the various competitions during the week-long event were also announced during the program. The week-long celebration featured various exhibits, Pasidungog 2025 Awarding Ceremony, Inambitay sa Kinaadman Farmers’ Forum, Larong Pinalahi, an All-breed Dog Show, Quiz Show, and Pabonggahan.
