As part of its ongoing commitment to the holistic development of future educators, the College of Education (COED) at Central Mindanao University hosted its first Pinning Ceremony for pre-service teachers. The event, themed “Conquering Horizons through Global Foresight, Performance Management, and Innovation,” was held on January 31, 2025, at the University Convention Center.

The pinning ceremony is a meaningful event in the teaching profession, representing the formal induction of individuals into a community of educators dedicated to shaping young minds and impacting future generations, as explained by Dr. Aprell L. Abellana, COED Supervisor for Student Teaching, in the rationale for the activity.
“The pin presented during this ceremony is not merely an accessory; it is a treasured symbol of their commitment to education and the noble responsibilities that come with it,” Dr. Abellana added.

In addition, the University President, Dr. Rolito G. Eballe, in his message, inspired CMU’s pre-service teachers to carry CMU’s core values— Committed to Excellence and Service, Moral Integrity, and Unity in Diversity.
“This practicum is your stage to apply all that you have learned, to refine your skills, and to grow into the educators you are meant to be. Face every challenge with resilience, teach with heart, and lead with wisdom,” Dr. Eballe asserted.

Moreover, the keynote speaker, Prof. Ehlrich Ray J. Magday, delivered an address focused on how the pin symbolizes the transition from being an ordinary student to a professional, marking both an accomplishment and a sense of accountability.
“Teachers, when you begin to lose patience with your students, glance at your pin to remind yourself of your role. Wear it with pride because you are representing the College of Education and Central Mindanao University, which has honed you for four years to become competent student teachers,” Prof. Magday stated.
This event aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Furthermore, a total of 431 pre-service teachers were pinned during the ceremony. [Mary Jane D. Bravo]
