BS Biology program re-accredited Level IV by AACCUP

The university’s BS Biology program earned a Level IV re-accredited status following rigid assessment by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. last December.

The status is valid from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2021.

“This Level IV re-accreditation…is only a manifestation that the work as well as the efforts of everyone in the department is recognized by AACCUP…” said Dr. Emmanuel Leaño, chairperson of the Biology Department.

The program rated 4.5 in areas of Research, Performance of Graduates, Community Service, International Linkages and Consortia, and Planning Process. It also received a grand mean of 4.5 or “Very satisfactory.”

“We should say that the improvements in the university are mainly because of the commendations made by AACCUP and we are grateful [to them]. Of course, we have to comply with those recommendations,” Dr. Leaño added.

He said that this re-accreditation implies more funding especially that the university was granted Level II institutional accreditation last year.

“…We are very happy and grateful especially with that…this level IV re-accreditation status will have impact on our SUC levelling and the budget—more budget means more infrastructure, more facilities, and more students can benefit,” he said.

Level IV re-accreditation means that the BS Biology program will be exempted from the AACCUP accreditation this March. Dr. Leaño said the department will be focusing their efforts in working for the CHED Center of Excellence award which will be expiring this year. (IDNeri)
