Faculty members from the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) represented Central Mindanao University (CMU) in a series of international One Health activities held in Vientiane, Lao PDR, from October 20–29, 2025.
The GREASE Network (Management of Emerging Risks in Southeast Asia) is a regional One Health network coordinated by CIRAD (French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development). It brings together research and academic institutions across Southeast Asia to improve understanding, surveillance, and management of emerging and endemic zoonotic diseases through multidisciplinary and collaborative approaches.
From October 20–24, Dr. Kassey Alsylle T. Dargantes participated in the GREASE Qualitative Data Analysis (QDA) Training, a capacity-building workshop designed to enhance community-based and field research on zoonotic diseases and public health.
This was followed by the 13th GREASE Annual Scientific Meeting on October 27–28, where CMU-CVM faculty showcased their ongoing research contributions to the One Health approach. Dr. Philip John S. Sajol presented his study on bovine tuberculosis in Bukidnon, emphasizing its public health implications and biosafety concerns among slaughterhouse workers. Dr. Karla Cristine C. Doysabas discussed their research on zoonotic parasites in wild-caught and market fish, highlighting associated One Health risks. Dr. Kassey Alsylle T. Dargantes shared their study on food safety in Mindanao, focusing on Salmonella contamination, antimicrobial resistance, and stakeholder practices related to eggs and spent hens.
On October 29, Dr. Dargantes and Dr. Doysabas represented CMU in the GREASE Steering Committee Meeting, where they contributed to discussions on regional strategies and collaborative research priorities among Southeast Asian and international partner institutions.
These engagements underscore CMU’s unwavering commitment to advancing One Health research, strengthening international collaboration, and promoting public health leadership in the region. [Information from the College of Veterinary Medicine]
