CMU receives book donation from UC-Department of Chemistry-CMU receives book donation from University of Cincinnati

Central Mindanao University (CMU) officially received a book donation from the University of Cincinnati (UC) – Department of Chemistry during a ceremony held on July 14, 2025, at the Center for Natural Products Research, Development, and Extension (CNPRDE).

Dr. Aileen Mae G. Ang, Director of CNPRDE, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the donation. “These books will not only enrich our university’s learning materials but also empower our students to learn more,” she stated.

The donation comprises a total of 574 book titles, primarily covering various fields of chemistry and allied sciences. The books are from the collection of Dr. William R. Heineman, a distinguished research professor at UC and the faculty of the Department of Chemistry of UC through its head, Dr. Michael J. Baldwin. This was facilitated by Dr. Annabelle P. Villalobos, a Balik Scientist under the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council of Health Research and Development, who is currently hosted by CMU. 

Furthermore, Dr. Villalobos shared her hope that the books would be widely utilized by students, faculty, and staff for many years to come. She also mentioned that more donations are coming and may include some laboratory equipment.

Also, University President Dr. Rolito G. Eballe echoed Dr. Ang’s sentiments, emphasizing that the donation signifies UC’s trust and support for CMU’s pursuit of academic excellence. He highlighted that the books will serve as an invaluable resource for students, faculty, and researchers alike.

“This chemistry library will definitely serve as an invaluable tool to our students, faculty, as well as researchers for the advancement of instruction, research, and development and the university’s academic integrity,” Dr. Eballe said.

The new collection will be named the Dr. William R. Heineman Chemistry Library in honor of Dr. Heineman’s generosity and will be housed at CNPRDE. [Johnica Chantal G. Montero]
