CMU GAD boosts Gender Mainstreaming through training series

Central Mindanao University (CMU), through its Center for Gender and Development (CGAD), continues to strengthen its gender mainstreaming efforts by sending GAD coordinators to consecutive training programs in Quezon City this August 2025.

On August 20–22, 2025, three GAD coordinators represented CMU in a three-day training seminar organized by the Responders Support Group, Inc. (RSGI) at the Camelot Hotel, Quezon City. The seminar focused on “Effective Communication and its Importance in Handling Customer Complaints” and “Leadership Training and Employee Discipline and Labor Relations 101.”

The participants included the GAD Coordinator from the Office of Public Relations and Information (OPRI), the Office of Human Resource and Management (OHRM) and a staff member of the GAD Secretariat.

The sessions, facilitated by Ms. Katrina Brondial-Apostol and Ms. Jennefer Gutierrez, provided lectures, discussions, and practical exercises aimed at improving communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills, which are essential tools in fostering inclusive and gender-sensitive workplaces.

Just a week earlier, four more CMU GAD coordinators from the College of Agriculture, the Legal Office, the University Housing and Relocation Committee, and the GAD Secretariat also attended RSGI’s training on “Ethical Communication in the Workplace” and “Administrative Disciplinary Rules on Sexual Harassment Cases.”

Aside from these capability-building activities, the Center for Gender and Development will also hold its Annual GAD Plan and Budget (GPB) and Strategic Planning in the last week of August. This activity is not only crucial in aligning the university’s gender programs with its institutional priorities but also serves as compliance with the national mandate on GAD budget allocation and utilization. It ensures that resources are properly planned and directed to address gender issues and advance inclusivity across the university.

These back-to-back initiatives highlight CMU’s strong commitment to gender mainstreaming and in empowering GAD focal persons and coordinators with the skills and tools they need to sustain a respectful, inclusive, and gender-responsive academic and work environment. [Iyren Dalipe Neri]
