The Center for Biodiversity Research and Extension in Mindanao (CEBREM), in collaboration with the Institute of Biological Sciences (IBS) of Central Mindanao University (CMU), launched the first session of the CEBREM Lecture Series on July 6, 2026, at the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Auditorium.

The event brought together faculty members, researchers, and graduate and undergraduate students for an engaging exchange of scientific knowledge and international perspectives.

Dr. Raquelyn J. Dadang, Director for International Relations, welcomed the participants and emphasized the university’s continuing commitment to promoting excellence in biodiversity research, scientific innovation, and international academic engagement. She noted that the lecture series reflects CEBREM’s mission of creating opportunities for knowledge sharing and strengthening research networks beyond national boundaries.
The inaugural lecture series featured guest speakers from Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU), Taiwan: Ms. Mescel S. Acola, Mr. Brian T. Sabanal, and Dr. Yong-Chao Su. They shared insights from their research and international academic experiences. Their presentations introduced participants to current developments in scientific research, emerging methodologies, and opportunities for collaborative studies that transcend institutional and national boundaries.
A highlight of the program was the lecture by Dr. Yong-Chao Su, an expert in bee diversity, ecology, and pollination biology. He discussed the ecological and economic importance of bees as essential pollinators and their critical role in maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem health. He also shared current research initiatives, conservation challenges, and the significance of pollinator diversity in sustaining agricultural productivity and environmental resilience. His presentation gave participants a deeper appreciation of pollinator research and its relevance to biodiversity conservation in the Philippines and beyond.
The lecture series also served as an interactive platform where participants engaged with the speakers through open discussions and question-and-answer sessions. These exchanges deepened their understanding of the topics presented while fostering meaningful connections with international researchers. Faculty members and students expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn from internationally recognized experts and explore potential research collaborations.
The launch also highlighted the strong partnership between Central Mindanao University and Kaohsiung Medical University, formalized through an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that promotes academic cooperation, collaborative research, faculty and student exchanges, and capacity-building initiatives.
Through succeeding lecture sessions, CEBREM aims to continue fostering knowledge exchange, international collaboration, and excellence in biodiversity research and education. [Information from Dr. Fulgent Coritico, CEBREM]
