Following the successful completion of the 27th ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Training Course in Bangkok, Thailand, last Jan 13–16, Central Mindanao University (CMU) has officially begun cascading its new strategic alignment for academic excellence.

During today’s flag-raising ceremony, University President Dr. Rolito G. Eballe reported on the institutional breakthroughs achieved alongside Dr. Jose S. Valmorida, VP for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Cherry Mae M. Balingit, Director of Instruction. Dr. Eballe noted that the insights gained from the training will serve as a “quality lens” to shape policy directions and further strengthen the University’s internal quality assurance mechanisms.
Central to Dr. Eballe’s report is the establishment of a common Academic Compass. This initiative seeks to align the entire institution under a shared guiding principle, ensuring that CMU’s Educational Philosophy, Graduate Attributes, and Core Values are translated directly into measurable Institutional, Program, and Course Learning Outcomes. Every program outcome must now explicitly reflect CMU’s identity as the “Academic Paradise of the South.”
Building on the intensive four-day training, CMU has identified three core areas of action to reinforce its internal discipline:
- Review and Revise: Systematic evaluation of curricula, teaching-learning strategies, assessment methods, and academic support processes.
- Realign Resources: Identification of needs and strategic budget allocation to support global benchmarks.
- Reinforce Culture: Strengthening Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) and fostering a culture of continuous improvement based on evidence-informed decisions.
This internationalization effort directly supports CMU’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
Moreover, Dr. Eballe emphasized that achieving regional relevance and public trust is a collective responsibility. The university’s strategic roadmap includes cascading these principles across all colleges, starting with pilot programs to prepare comprehensive self-assessment reports.
“We will shape the future of CMU together,” Dr. Eballe stated, underscoring that the ultimate goal is to produce globally competitive, future-ready graduates who are responsive to both regional needs and international standards.
