A significant ₱2.5 million educational grant has been secured by Central Mindanao University (CMU) from Nestlé Philippines through its Nescafé brand. It will directly support 100 CMU student beneficiaries from coffee-farming backgrounds.

This funding is a key component of Nestlé’s broader Bangon Hacienda initiative, providing a substantial boost for its local coffee-farming community. Each student will receive ₱25,000 in financial aid through the CMU-specific program, “Tasa ng Pag-asa” (Cup of Hope). The selection process is ongoing, prioritizing students in the BS Agriculture program who are children of coffee farmers.
The ceremonial check presentation took place at a launch event in One Ayala, Makati City, on October 23. The event, “Nescafé’s Gisingin ang Mundo: Tasa ng Pag-asa,” celebrated International Coffee Month and honored the resilience of Filipino coffee farmers.
The University President, Dr. Rolito G. Eballe later shared the news with the University community during the monthly convocation on November 3. He highlighted the significance of the university’s inclusion in the initiative.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Nestlé Nescafé Philippines for its steadfast support in helping young Filipinos pursue their dreams through education and for selecting CMU as one of its valued partners in this meaningful initiative. Across the entire Philippines, only four State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) were granted this educational aid. CMU is one, alongside Sultan Kudarat State University, University of Southern Mindanao, and University of Southeastern Philippines.”
Dr. Eballe also noted that this is a repeat partnership with Nescafé.
“This is a repeat for CMU, as last year we were also considered as a grantee with a budget of ₱4 million. This year, each of the SUCs received ₱2.5 million. We are proud to partner with Nescafé in honoring our Filipino coffee farmers and empowering their children to be the next generation of leaders in agriculture.”
The CMU delegation in attendance included: University President, Dr. Rolito G. Eballe, Vice President for Administration, Prof. Hermie P. Cordova, and Ms. Baby Rose Prayon and Mr. Selverio Prayon, representatives of the CMU beneficiaries, coffee farmers from Lantapan, Bukidnon. [Iyren D. Neri with reports from Dr. Cherly C.
