Two Central Mindanao University (CMU) agriculture students participated in the Asian Association of Agricultural Colleges and Universities (AAACU) Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) 2025. The two-week international academic and cultural exchange program was hosted by the University of Eastern Philippines in Catarman, Northern Samar, from July 20 to August 2, 2025.
Ranny Boy B. Gayongan and Lea P. Sibomit, both fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Agriculture students, immersed themselves in activities centered on sustainable and climate-smart agriculture. They attended workshops on organic and precision farming, technology integration, and environmental management, equipping them with practical skills and exposure to modern agricultural practices. Educational excursions on coastal ecosystems, history, and marine science, along with cultural immersion activities, further deepened their understanding of Northern Samar’s heritage and environment.
Reflecting on their experience, the students expressed gratitude to CMU for its support and the opportunity to represent the university in an international program.
“We extend our deepest appreciation to the CMU administration for providing the opportunity to participate in this transformative Summer Enrichment Program,” Gayongan expressed.
Both students emphasized that their learnings in organic farming, aquaculture, and green entrepreneurship will not only enhance their future research but also strengthen CMU’s community extension initiatives.
“The knowledge and skills acquired during this program will significantly enhance our capacity to contribute to CMU’s mission of providing quality agricultural education and serving our communities,” Sibomit shared.
Beyond technical knowledge, the program also provided networking opportunities and potential collaborations with fellow participants and partner institutions across Asia. Gayongan and Sibomit believe these connections can pave the way for future projects that will benefit CMU’s academic and research endeavors. [Johnica Chantal G.
