IN PHOTOS: The Physics Department of the College of Arts and Sciences, CMU, hosted a public lecture by the Nobel Laureate in Physics Prof. Donna Strickland of the University of Waterloo (Canada)

last Friday, September 17 from 8:00 – 9:30 PM. The event was held through the Physics Meetup (the department’s extension project), partnering with several science-based organizations in the Philippines and the International Centre for Theoretical Physics – Physics Without Frontiers in Trieste, Italy. Attended by almost 500 participants in Zoom and 1,000+ viewers (mostly young Filipinos) on Facebook Live. The session was Prof. Strickland’s first-ever public lecture in the Philippines. Professor Strickland is the third woman awardee in the 120-year history of the Nobel Prize in Physics, joining Marie Curie and Maria Goeppert-Mayer. She won the Nobel Prize in Physics by revolutionizing laser physics, paving the way toward the shortest and most intense laser pulses created by humankindโ€”leading to several applications today in industry and medicine.
