Bukidnon, Philippines – Startup Weekend is a 54-hour event designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs.  Beginning with Friday morning pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation. It culminates on Sunday night demos and presentations. Participants create working startups during the event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks.

All teams attended talks by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local entrepreneurs. Held last September 27 to 29, 2019, the weekend was centered around action, innovation, and education. Whether you are looking for feedback on an idea, a co-founder, specific skill sets, or a team to help you execute, Startup Weekend is the perfect environment to test your idea and take the first steps towards launching your own startup.

The judges are Evamay Dela Rosa, the regional director of DICT, Ronald Piper Ramboanga, the CEO of Knights of Online Marketers, Ronald Rhey Miñoza, the CEO of Streetby, community mover, Jhonny Paul Lagura, Kristine Dalis, the founder of Love Bucket, and UX designer and community builder, Marx Consuegra.

The team created a one-stop agri-shop that will connect farmers directly to consumers. The team’s goal is to bring farm products directly to the dining table, and to help farmers.

One of the organizations partnered with Startup Weekend Bukidnon is Ambidextr, a content marketing, and events management company focused on serving tech companies in the Asia Pacific.

“Team BuQid gave farmers an easier way to earn money, while giving consumers an easier way to buy their products without the extra fees from the middlemen,” said –of Amibidextr.

The winning team was awarded a one round-trip ticket and accommodation to Singapore to present at the Global Startup Weekend Women 2019. They were also endorsed to the Technology Business Incubator of Central Mindanao University, and given copies of The Finishers, a book written by Ezra Ferraz, the founder of Amibidextr.

The other teams are Team 7 Tribes Agency, who bagged 2nd-place with an app that will enroll IP artisans that will preserve their arts culture, and Team addSERVE, who won 3rd-place by providing a marketplace for blue-collar jobs in Bukidnon.

It is a great collaboration between DICT Mindanao Cluster 2 and DTI Province of Bukidnon through the superpowers of Lead Organizer, Keren Happuch Lacadin, despite many struggles made the event a success.
