CMU marked another significant achievement in its pursuit of academic excellence as its representatives participated in the ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) 22nd Tier 1 Training for 2025, held in Bangkok, Thailand, from January 21 to 24, 2025.

Dr. Bienvenido M. Butanas Jr., Director of the Office of Quality Assurance (OQA), and Prof. Erwin P. Ambasa, Assistant Director of OQA, represented CMU in this event, reinforcing the university’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards and strengthening its role within the ASEAN academic community.
The 22nd AUN-QA Tier 1 Training was designed to enhance participants’ understanding of the AUN-QA Program Assessment process. It focused on interpreting AUN-QA criteria, applying quality assurance requirements to academic programs, and conducting gap analyses to improve programs. CMU continues to equip its quality assurance leaders with these skills to ensure that the University’s academic programs remain competitive and aligned with global standards.
The training gathered 36 participants from various ASEAN countries, including 18 from the Philippines, 11 from Thailand, 2 from Vietnam, 1 from Malaysia, and 4 from Indonesia. CMU’s active involvement in this program highlights its dedication to fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Dr. Butanas and Prof. Ambasa’s involvement is part of the university’s broader goal of aligning its academic programs with global standards to prepare its graduates for the demands of an increasingly interconnected world, further aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education.
Moreover, Prof. Erwin P. Ambasa shared that the University has consistently emphasized the importance of quality assurance in higher education as part of its vision to become a leading ASEAN university. Participation in AUN-QA activities, including the Tier 1 Training, is integral to this goal. It fulfills one of the requirements for membership in the AUN-QA network, and positions CMU to apply for the AUN-QA Programme Assessment, a critical step in benchmarking its academic programs against international standards.
The CMU administration remains steadfast in its commitment to academic excellence and global competitiveness. By joining initiatives like the AUN-QA Tier 1 Training, CMU ensures its programs remain relevant, dynamic, and responsive to the ever-evolving demands of higher education. The university’s proactive approach demonstrates its resolve to uphold quality and strengthen its ties with ASEAN academic institutions, paving the way for a brighter future for its students and faculty.
