Two academic leaders from Central Mindanao University (CMU), Dr. Jose S. Valmorida, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Judith D. Intong, Dean of the College of Agriculture, took part in the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture’s (SEARCA) Agriculture and Development Seminar Series (ADSS), held at SEARCA’s headquarters on September 24.
The SEARCA Agriculture and Development Seminar Series (ADSS) encourages the presentation and discussion of development and research issues, as well as their implications for agricultural and rural development.
For this series, Dato’ Prof. Dr. Ahmad Farhan bin Mohd Sadullah, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), delivered a talk titled “UPM’s Blueprint for Food Security: Providing Impact from Universities.” The talk focused on UPM’s strategic initiatives to tackle food security challenges through research, policy advocacy, and partnerships with industry stakeholders to create sustainable solutions benefiting both local and global communities.
As a leading institution in agriculture, recognized by the Commission on Higher Education, CMU actively engages in initiatives that promote sustainable agricultural practices and innovations. Dr. Valmorida shared that their participation in the seminar aligns with CMU’s broader mission to contribute meaningfully to food security through education, research, and community engagement.
“As key academic leaders, we are committed to ensuring that CMU not only responds to the challenges of national food security but also actively participates in global efforts addressing agricultural sustainability,” Dr. Valmorida remarked. He also emphasized the vital role of universities in driving innovation and research to address food scarcity, nutrition, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Moreover, Dr. Intong highlighted the relevance of CMU’s academic programs and research projects in responding to the evolving challenges in agriculture, reaffirming the university’s dedication to improving productivity while ensuring environmental sustainability.
