Fourteen Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) students from Central Mindanao University College of Human Ecology (CMU-CHE) have started their international on-the-job training in Phuket, Thailand.

The students were deployed on March 24, 2025, to three different partner hotels: The Slate Phuket, JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, and Four Points by Sheraton. The 600-hour training will run until June 14 and is designed to provide the students with hands-on experience in Thailand’s hospitality industry. It aims to enhance students’ practical skills, cultural awareness, and understanding of international hotel operations.
Prior to deployment, CMU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jose S. Valmorida and CHE Dean Dr. Rubie A. Arroyo conducted site visits to ensure the quality and safety of the training facilities and accommodations.
Dr. Arroyo stated that through this initiative, the university anticipates significant benefits including strengthened international linkages, enhanced student learning, and potential curriculum development based on insights gained from the training. “This collaboration underscores CMU’s commitment to providing its students with globally competitive experiences and elevating its international involvement in higher education. This immersive training will significantly contribute to the students’ professional development and prepare them for their future careers,” Dr. Arroyo said. [Johnica Chantal G.
