CMU Palaro 2023 is one of the most anticipated activities at the university. This year’s Palaro
was themed “CMU@113: Celebrating a Culture of Excellence, Envisioning Collaboration, and
Uplifting Camaraderie through Sports,” where Mighty Orcas demonstrated their excellence in
sports competitions and was declared the overall champion during the CMU Palaro 2023
awarding ceremony at the University Sports Complex.
The Mighty Orcas comprised three colleges: the College of Veterinary Medicine, the College of
Education, and the College of Forestry and Environmental Science. Mighty Orcas earned the
title of the team with the most victories after accumulating 139 gold medals from various
sporting events.
Moreover, the reigning team has received the overall champion trophy. Next to the winning
team were the Wildcats, which gathered 108 gold medals, and the Aggie Bulls, which got 72
gold medals, followed by the Striking Sphinx with 71 medals, and the CBM Eagles, which earned
34 gold medals from all the sports competitions.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Student Council President, Hon. Ken Bien Mar L. Caballes expressed
his appreciation to all the participating teams, as well as to their respective college councils,
coaches, and college sports coordinators. “You’ve demonstrated extraordinary skills, resilience,
and an unwavering spirit, which have inspired us all. Your commitment to your respective
sports has been a sight to behold,” he added.
Hon. Caballes further inspired the Palaro 2023 participants by saying, “The medals won may
shine brightly, but the true victory lies in the friendships forged, the lessons learned, and the
memories created. The University Palaro Games may conclude today, but the legacy it leaves
behind will continue to inspire generations to come.”
Furthermore, Dr. Rolito G. Eballe, the University President, was also grateful for the five-day
successful sporting event. “The spirit of healthy competition really showed in the one-week
competition, the camaraderie, and the unity and strength among the academic community,”
Dr. Eballe said.
According to Dr. Eballe, the Palaro 2023 was a platform to forge lasting friendships, deepen
connections, and create memories that last a lifetime. Moreover, it was a venue for the
CMUans to uplift each other, cheer their teams, and share the joy of sportsmanship,
strengthening the camaraderie that is attributed to the vibrant CMU spirit. [Mary Jane D. Bravo]
