International speakers visit CMU projects, research centers

Dr. Ohseok Kwon and Dr. Myeoung Cheol Kim, professors from Kyungpook National University (KNU), together with Mr. Ian Jomari from the Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) visited the university projects and research centers, afternoon of November 15.

“Since our visitor from DA-BAR [Mr. Jomari] will be travelling back to Manila, it is good that they will see the university projects and research centers before leaving,” Dr. Victor B. Amoro, CEBREM director, said. Mr. Jomari represents Dr. Nicomedes P. Eleazar, the executive director of DA-BAR.

They visited the rubber processing area, forest nursery, university fishpond and Sugbahan sa Musuan, Natural Products Research and Development Center (NPRDC), Natural Science Research Center (NSRC), and Center for Biodiversity Research and Extension in Mindanao (CEBREM).

During their visit at NPRDC, Dr. Kwon and Dr. Amoroso discussed in passing the possible partnerships between the Republic of Korea and the Republic of the Philippines through KNU and CMU, in terms of collaboration in research and instruction.
“We have a program in our University that offers a two-week training. They [intern] will be taught everything they need to learn about research,” Dr. Kwon shared.

The visitors commended the university’s cool and peaceful nature during their tour. “The people are also very vibrant,” Dr. Kwon added.
The conference aims to “gather the researchers from academic institutions, local government units, government agencies, students, and other stakeholders to effect healthy ecosystems thereby providing the appropriate ecosystem services for man and the whole biosphere.”
