GMA Kapuso Campus Tour wraps up at CMU

GMA Network ‘Kapuso Campus Tour: The GMA Regional TV Masterclass Series’ wrapped up on its 7th and last leg at Central Mindanao University, March 1.

Kapuso Campus Tour:  GMA Regional TV Masterclass Series’ was an opportunity to students to become part of the relevant discussions on both local and national issues, and learned insights from the panel of experts covering a wide range of topics.

The activity was timely and significant to the upcoming mid-term national election. It aimed to bring Filipino people the most comprehensive and most trusted Eleksyon 2019 coverage.

The GMA Network and CMU affirmed partnership to educate voters and protect democracy in support of the networks’ #PusuanAngTotoo Campaign.

Seven selected top state colleges and universities from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao supported the Kapuso Campus Tour. It started last December 10, 2018 at Silliman University, Dumaguete City. It was then followed on January 31 at Holy Cross of Davao College, Incorporated, Davao City.

Other institutions that were part of the Campus Tour were the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, West Visayas State University in Iloilo City, the University of Pangasinan in Dagupan City; and Capitol University in Cagayan De Oro City.  

Moreover, Dr. Jesus Antonio G. Derije, 9th University President, expressed his happiness in his welcome remarks of having the GMA Kapuso to the campus.

“CMU is really a paradise and we are very lucky it is because we have here one of the best stations in the country… GMA Kapuso 7,” Dr. Derije stressed. “This is really an inspiration because we have a partner whose interest is for the greater good.”

There were seven highly calibers and equally competent panelists. They were: Ms. Audrey Domasian – Senior Social Media Producer for GMA News and in charge of hunting for viral stories online and creating content for the official GMA News social media accounts; Dr. Nielsen Donato – veterinarian with almost 30 years of experience in treating companion animals and wildlife and host of Born to be Wild, the Philippines’ pioneer environmental program; and Ms. Rahiema Guerra –President of the Board of Trustees of AFS Intercultural Programs Philippines.

Other panelists were: Ms. Mariz Umali – Senior Reporter for GMA News and anchors Balitanghali Weekend, and host Brigada for GMA News TV; Ms. Sheillah Vergara-Rubio –one of the GMA Regional TV One Mindanao’s most seasoned and fearless Senior Correspondents; Mr. Benjamin Alves – an ambassador of the GMA Network Excellence Award and one of the most sought after stars of GMA Network’s Artist Center; and Mr. Howie Severino – journalist for 31 years and has been producing, writing and presenting television stories and documentaries, currently, the Vice President in GMA’s News and Public Affairs Group.

Various topics were deliberated and discussed. These were: Mobile Journalism / YouScoop, Social Responsibility, Aiming for Excellence, #LocalNewsMatters (importance of community news), Fake News (tools on how to identify it), Think before You Click Campaign, Building Global Communities, AFS (what is it and how to be part of it) Documentary Making, and #PusuanAngTotoo Election Campaign.

Around three thousand CMU key officials, Senior High School Students, College Students, Faculty, Staff, Visitors, and Guests participated in the said activity. (MJLTalisay)
