Students from Central Mindanao University secured spots in the top five during the 3rd Regional Kabataang Organic Agriculture (OA) Quiz Bee at the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) – Regional Training Center 10, El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental, on September 26, 2024.
Via Marie Alpas emerged as champion, besting other contestants from different schools in the region. The third-year BS Agriculture – Plant Breeding student will be representing Region 10 in the national level Kabataang OA competition at the ATI Central Office in November.
Joining Alpas in the top five was Kristine Mae Ramo, a third-year BS Agriculture – Agronomy student, who landed in fifth place.
Alpas and Ramo were coached by Dr. Niña Mae Villar. The quiz bee was organized in line with the nationwide celebration of Organic Agriculture Month in November. It is among the agency’s initiatives to create awareness of organic agriculture and boost enrollment in OA and other related agriculture courses.
Other institutions joined the competition were Camiguin Polytechnic State College, Tubod College, University of Science and Technology in Southern Philippines – Claveria campus, Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, and Mindanao State University – Naawan campus. [Johnica Chantal G. Montero]
