In an up close interview with Acenas, he said, “My experience in the AmCham Phils Business Orientation Program 2014 of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc. can summarize in this quote, “We don’t have to be good in everything, we just have to be one of the best in something”. Fortunately, among the five nominees, I was the lucky one who made it in the final list and became the first CMU student to be able to qualify in the AmCham BOP”.
Top 1 Dean’s Lister of the College of Engineering Angelo A. Acenas shared his experience during the week -long BOP in Makati City on May 3-11, 2014. “ I was able to met the US Ambassador to the Philippines Philip S. Goldberg. It was indeed an amazing experience” he revealed.
He added that his journey in BOP was not that easy “ I had to work in an Auto Supply to buy all the things that I need for the event including my clothes. I am preparing to look good in front of the CEOs. As to the BOP experience itself, it was the best in my life. Lots of first time did happen. I am glad because I represented the students who may be financially challenged, yet intellectually and morally deserving. This is my opportunity to promote the island of Mindanao, an avenue to learn more”, Acenas added.
Acenas attended the BOP with some other 31 university students across the country who are qualifiers in the AmCham Phils. The components of the program include company visits such as Coca-Cola , Bank of the Phil. Islands, Wells Fargo, Chevron, etc. They also met the chief executive officers and mentors of the business projects.
The activity aimed to promote a venue for the constructive competitive exchange of ideas of aspiring young leaders, harness students analytical and problem-solving skills in the context of real- life business environment, and help them enhance mutual understanding, cooperation, and communication skills, especially with AmCham companies.
It maybe recalled that University President Dr. Maria Luisa R. Soliven and then the Vice-President for Academic Affairs (now the Caraga State University President Dr. Anthony Penaso) joined Acenas during the closing ceremony at the New Makati Hotel, Makati City.
