To remind and update the newly trained accreditors on Outcomes-Based Quality Assurance, the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) conducted the three-day retooling activity in coordination with the CMU Quality Assurance Office held at the Farmer’s Training Center, August 21-23.
The event was composed of a series of lectures and workshops in Rating System Appraisal, Technical Writing; SAR, and What Makes a Good Accreditor. The participants also visited the university Quality Assurance Office. Queries and suggestions from the AACCUP Accreditors were also acknowledged and addressed, especially when it comes to techniques in rating. They identified basic and supporting documents for benchmark activities.
Dr. Hedeliza A. Pineda, one of the resource persons and Member of the Board of Directors of the AACCUP shared in her talk on the strengths and weaknesses of power dressing. Dr. Pineda is the Director of Quality Assurance and a well-trained accreditor from Cebu Technological University.
Eight participating state universities across Mindanao and Visayas sent their Accreditors to participate in the training activity. These includes the Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology (CFCST), Central Mindanao University (CMU), Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine Aquatic School of Technology, University of Southern Mindanao-KABACAN (USM), University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC), and Cebu Technological University.
According to Dr. Riceli C. Mendoza, AACCUP Board of Trustee Member and Secretary, 58 participants graced the training. Dr. Mendoza was also the resource speaker who tackled Technical Writing.
“This is one of the trainings of the AACCUP, and the accreditors were already trained in the OBQA way back in 2014… this retooling activity is intended to remind them, to update them. This is actually the first batch of retooling activity, but supposedly it should be done every month,” she added.
One of the participants from ZCSPC shared in an interview of the importance of the retooling activity for the accreditors; it will be of big help to the school in terms of accreditation as an institution. He also extended his interest to attend more of the same activity and looks forward to more enhancement in terms of accreditation in AACCUP. Moreover, two more retooling activities have been planned to take place tentatively in October and December this year. Dr. Pineda added that the upcoming training venue would take place in CMU considering its location – Central Mindanao. Which means that the accreditors from different provinces in Mindanao can easily converge. (Angelli C. Doňa)
