Central Mindanao University Academic Paradise of the South
CMU has nine Colleges, a Graduate School and a laboratory secondary school (ULHS). The colleges are as follows: College of Agriculture, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Commerce & Accountancy, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Forestry, College of Home Economics, College of Nursing and College of Veterinary Medicine.
The quality of our instruction is guaranteed by the academic qualifications of the faculty members. The teaching force is constituted by 21% PhD degree holders, 43% MS & MA degree holders and 36% B.S. degree holders & B.S. degree holders with earned units in MS/MA courses.
This year, a total of 21 faculty scholars were sent to different national and international schools. Ph.D. scholars soared to 12 (1 for DocEngg and 10 for MS/MA). Of the 21 scholars, 3 are in different universities in Asia, Europe and Australia; 3 are in CMU while the rest are in the different universities in the Philippines. Also, there are some faculty members who took advanced degrees which were not recorded in the Office of Instruction because they were studying during off office hours and week ends with out the support of the University.
The University’s Faculty Development Program has produced tangible results not only on high-quality graduates but also on the performance of our graduates in the respective board examinations. The Licensure Examinations in 2010 has placed CMU among the top performing schools in the country in various disciplines. CMU ranked number one, with 100% passing, in the Licensure Examination for Mechanical Engineers for three consecutive years already. Also, the University ranked number one in Nutrition and Dietetics with 100% passing against the national passing of 70.41%. In the other Board Examinations conducted, although we were not able to get the 100% passing mark but CMU percentage passing surpassed the national percentage passing as shown in Table 8., and on top of this many placed on the top ten. On May 2010 Licensure Examination for Civil Engineers, Rene Charles C. Supremo placed 5th; on July 2010 Licensure Exam for Agriculturists, Junrey C. Amas placed 7th and Vincent Beirn O. Dayao placed 9th; on July 2010 Licensure Exam for Forester, Garry C. Marapao placed 2nd; on August 2010 Licensure Examination for Veterinarians, Jess Anthony R. Recososa placed 5th and Maria Katerina O. Ellana placed 8th; and on September 2010 Licensure Examination for Teachers, Ian Paul B. Saligumba placed 2nd.
With its tuition fee still the lowest among SUCs in Mindanao (Php 90.00 per unit), the university has a total enrolment of 19,240 students for the first and second semesters of SY 2010-2011 including summer 2010.
The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) released 3,540 approved applications for scholarship for SY 2010-2011 of which 1,862 were academic scholars, 1,071 non-academic scholars and 607 grant-in-aids scholarship (Barangay scholars, City scholars, BSDC scholars, DOST scholars, and other private corporations/ agencies offering scholarship to CMU students, etc.).
There were also 59 student assistants assigned in the various colleges and units of the University working a maximum of 40 hours per month at the rate of Php 10.00 per hour.
Per evaluation by CHED, CMU maintains its status as Center of Excellence (COE) in Agriculture; COE in Forestry; COE in Veterinary Medicine; Center of Development (COD) in Biology; and COD in Mathematics.
