Central Mindanao University (CMU) conducted a Webinar/Workshop on Digital Online Teaching and Learning Engagement for Gen Z Students on August 16 – 20, 2021

This activity was sponsored by the CMU Press, Office of the Director of Instruction, and the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Professor Anansa C. Dijan of Far Eastern University (FEU) – Manila served as the resource person. Prof. Dijan is the current Chairperson of the Department of Communication of FEU.  A total of 115 faculty members attended the activity. They represented the ten (10) colleges of the University.

The webinar/workshop as presented by Dr. Raquelyn Dadang, Director of Instruction aimed to enhance the knowledge and understanding among faculty members on digital behavior of current students and how this affects teaching and learning practices; learn the use of Canva, an online visual communication tool which can be used for modules, presentations, and other instructional materials; identify other available digital platforms that can be used for online teaching; learn basic video recording using mobile phones/laptops for recorded online lectures; and create a module and infographic lectures using Canva Presentation.

Dr. Jose Alexander C. Abella, Vice President for Academic Affairs emphasized in his opening remarks that this activity is important specially in the management of digital online learning that CMU is implementing. He believed that there would be an added knowledge, skills and competence among the faculty members after joining the webinar/workshop.

In his message, Dr. Jesus Antonio G. Derije, University President underscored on the need for CMU to conduct this kind of activity to make online teaching among faculty members become more engaging and meaningful to the students. He then urged the faculty members to continuously adopt new  styles of teaching, those that are  relevant to the studentโ€™s interests and needs and help lessen their struggles while engaging on online learning.

Dr. Alan P. Dargantes, Vice President for Research Development, and Extension also stressed the importance of honing the faculty members on online teaching and resource development skills. He hoped that the knowledge and skills learned from webinar/workshop would be maximized by mentoring other colleagues in the University. In closing, Dr. Dargantes mentioned that learning is a continuous process and age is not an excuse for learning.

As expected, the faculty members were able to use Canva, produce presentations and infographic materials using Canva and learn the basic video recording and record online lectures (MGCSustento/University Press).
