CMU strengthens researchers to produce more output-based publications

Together with the CMU Journal of Science, the CMU Research Office and the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension (VPRDE) conducted an output-based publication workshop on July 15-16, 2021, at the Farmers Training Center.

The workshop aimed to apply the concept of scientific article writing, enhance the researchers’ writing skills in journal publishing, and produce publishable articles for publication in the CMU Journal of Science and International Scopus journals.

“Sometimes we need a little push to keep us going, to keep us writing. Publishing our work is important. We need to publish our research despite the busy schedules that we have, especially in this pandemic,” Dr. Alan P. Dargantes, Vice President for Research and Extension, said in his welcome remarks.

He further encouraged the faculty researchers to publish more articles to help the institution raise its university ranking in research and publications at the national and international levels.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jupiter V. Casas, the University Research Director, emphasized that there is a new Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) requiring all those CMU research projects to have at least one publication. For outside-funded researches, one publication is required for every one million worth of funding.

He further encouraged the researchers to give ample time in writing for publications. “It is our goal to publish articles in both our CMU Journal of Science and in other international and Scopus Journals,” he said.

“By the way, please do not forget to use our Elsevier access code. This is free for your literature review,” he added.  The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has given CMU access to the recent and up-to-date journals. “So let us maximize the use of that because the government has spent almost 5-M for its subscription,” he highlighted.

Topics discussed in the workshop include the following: 1) Plagiarism and Grammarly Check by Dr. Einstein M. Opiso, 2) Important Skills of Scientific Article Writing by Dr. Michael Arieh P. Medina, 3) Developing a Regular Writing Habit by Dr. Fulgent P. Coritico, 4) Getting Pass Reviewers and Editors by Dr. Alma B. Mohagan, 5) Common Errors in Article Writing by Dr. Opiso, 6) Enhancing Different Parts of the Paper (Title, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussions, and Conclusion) by Dr. Mohagan, 7) Maximizing the Search Engine by Dr. Medina, and 8) Tips on Publishing High Impact Journals by Dr. Coritico.

Outputs of the workshop will also be helpful for the university’s plan to undergo accreditation as Level IV SUC (RGPadoginog).
