The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is granted Level I Accredited Status by Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. The program was evaluated during the first Survey Visit conducted last November 21-23, 2012 and got the grand mean of 3.18. The rating is above the minimum grand mean of 3.00 as required to qualify for this level. Based on the assessment, the following were the results per area: Faculty (Area II) – 3.08; Curriculum and Instruction (Area III) – 2.58; Support to Students (Area IV) – 3.24; Research (Area V) – 3.01; Extension and Community Involvement (Area VI) –3.08; Library (Areal VII) – 3.48; Physical Plants and Facilities (Area VIII) – 3.55; Laboratories (Area IX) – 3.83; and, Administration (Area X) – 3.41. These ratings are above the minimum area mean of 2.50 which indicate that the College has attained a higher level of quality program and was granted the Level I Accredited Status for the BSN Program. The accredited status takes effect December 1, 2012 to November 30, 2015.
The accrediting team was headed by its Overall Coordinator, Dr. Dolorcita E. Pauya, Program Director, Glan Education Extension, Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU); and, the Cluster III Coordinator, Dr. Andrew Eusebio S. Tan, Western Visayas State University (WVSU). The team leader was Prof. Ma. Nelia P. Silloriquez, Research Coordinator, College of Nursing, WVSU. The members of the team were Dr. Lilia Z. Boyles, Caraga State University (CSU); Dr. Noemi G. Las Piñas, WVSU; Dr. Joy M. Sarrosa, Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST); Dr. Helen W. Noel, Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST); Dr. Myrna D. Kuizon, CSU; Prof. Roberto A. Denila, University of Southern Philippines (USEP); and, Prof. Aida C. Osorio, Surigao del Sur State University (SdSSU).
Prof. Ellen Gay S. Intong, MN, RN, Dean of the College of Nursing (CON), proudly highlighted this achievement in collaboration with the faculty, staff, students, alumni and administration. With the unanimity of this pursuit of excellence, CON has maintained the standards of nursing education. This success eventually attained the University’s Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives. Through the leadership of the University President, Dr. Maria Luisa R. Soliven, CON continues to uphold the core values of the University through Commitment to Excellence, Moral Integrity and Unity in Diversity.
The accreditation process dealt with the assessment of the program implementation as required and set by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). This maintains the provision of quality nursing education which prepares student nurses to become beginning nurse practitioners as they graduate under a competency-based program. The College never stops its commitment to provide responsible and globally competitive nurses embracing the values— Love of God, Love of People, Love of Country, and Caring as the core of nursing which upholds the values of Five (5) Cs – Compassion, Confidence, Conscience, Competence, and Commitment – to a culture of excellence, discipline, integrity and professionalism.
The CON family continues to ace the race of the most coveted Center of Excellence (COE) status.
